STADIUM STATUS

We all know Kanye West is in love with his matted-out Lamborghinis. However, Yeezy turned into Mercedes Ye when he took residence at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Although he followed up with a listening-party performance at Soldier Field in Chicago, his Mercedes stadium performances were crucial to the development of DONDA due to the fact that he lived at the venue for almost two weeks fine-tuning his album between the stage of the colosseum and a closet-converted-bedroom that looked similar to a barrack (bare- only containing the things he truly needed). During each of these listening events, Ye showcased and actively reorchestrated his 10th studio album— testing the reception of the live crowd, the acoustics, and the ear of the rest of the world through the allowance of each show being uploaded to Youtube for a span of 48hrs and quickly being taken down thereafter. Subsequently, for those who experienced “love at first-byte” with any of the tracks on the album, they’d be graced by the angles of the internet who found miraculous ways to keep uploading the tracks. This is speculation, but if that were the case and we had a team of people surfing the web for our tracks, we’d be keen to pay close attention to which of our records were being listened to and duplicated the most and use that information to help dictate which songs would ultimately end up on the album.

The album was officially released on August 29th, 2021. Many traditional hip-hop heads were upset with how musical, gospel, and simplistic the project was and wished there were more bars— from Ye. However, we are of the school of thought where less is more and believe there are many entendre to be taken from the project. With this being said, we aren’t here to do a full album review, but we’d like to note that we find very questionable his lines:

“Devil get behind me

I’m loose

I’m free”.

Considering hip-hop’s pause culture, and the fact that Kanye and Lil Nas X shared a release date for material, (they worked together), we find this line very questionable. These lines can be interpreted as 'devil get behind me and support me.' It can also be interpreted as 'Devil, get behind me, I’m loose (drunk and flirty)and got free time.' This second interpretation has sexual innuendos. We don't have anything against homosexuality, and we don’t believe in homophobia, but this shit sounds off— for a gospel album. We don't like flagrant gays (due to child-based confusion) but we also don't appreciate dishonest gayship. If you run that way, own it and keep it classy— we love you. The line reads weird. It sounds weird, and the spirit says it feels weird. Despite these feelings, we will mention that with a less defensive mind these lines could also be interpreted as, 'Devil, you’re in my past, I'm relaxed and able to do anything.' None the less we do want to bring this point of contention up only because, 1. It's good for debate, and 2. we definitely feel like there are many ways to skin the cat, but that aint it.

That's honestly our only quarrel with the project— if you’d even call it that. Regardless, he’s keepin Jesus name alive and we are happy with the project despite always skipping that part of Pure Souls. The ending is fiye tho.

It’s a good project and a nice addition to his whole catalog.

Let us know what you think about the project and his methods of marketing it?
